Old Documents (The Last Chroniclers). Several Considerations on the Chronicle of the Royal Team from Râpile – Bacău County

Summary/Abstract: The chronicle on which the present article focuses on is an unpublished history page and a rich source of ethnographic information related to the locality Râpile of Bacău, the present-day Gura Văii. This chronicle has a special attribute; it is an excellent example of both non-formal and informal pedagogy. The main chronicler, Ion Butucelea, an experienced teacher, actively participated to an atypical educational process: teaching adult or almost adult persons in a quasi-formal yet nonstandard system, the subjects (students) being outside the norm he was used to. The chronicle depicts numerous individual figures: emblematic personalities of the village (teachers, priests), physicians and veterinarians, guards’ commander, peasants. The students of the peasant school complete their personal education and training voluntarily. The chronicler is part of the story, and his narration is subjective. The text includes numerous references to historical and cultural personalities and events and depicts the World War II period. The chronicle documents the social gathering in Râpile for the year 1939. The present article includes several considerations on the chronicle text and renders some of its pages on social gathering by photos, and not transcribed, so as to highlight its calligraphy.
