Crime Stories by L. Kurnatowski as a Source of Jargon

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses selected elements of the language of the crime stories, in particular the criminal jargon, penned by L. Kurnatowki, a criminologist and investigator active at the beginning of the 20th century. The subject was selected due to interest in the figure of the author and in a mystery linked to the existence of one of L. Kurnatowski’s works, to which W. Ludwikowski and H. Walczak, the compilers of the Thug Music dictionary, and the jargon researcher W. Budziszewska refer. However, no data on that text and work is available. Having analysed L. Kurnatowskis’s works, it seems that there was no such work or dictionary that the aforesaid authors refer to.
