Summary/Abstract: This study aims to restore a man, an opera and an epoch filled with complex and complicated political and national issues; a journalist and an English historian who, for decades, has been identified as one of the most popular and valuable foreign defender of the cause of the Romanian people’s independence and of the political and state unity – R.W. Seton-Waston (1879-1951). His friendship and efficiency with the Roumanians have a raised value through his articles, studies and written works about the history of the Roumanian people along four decades. He is the author of an important synthesis of the Roumanian history from the Roman period to the completion of national unity, published in English (1934) and French (1937). In his syntesis he has given a special attention to the history of Transylvania, considering it a key issue to the more vast problem of the Romanian unity. Through his extensive information and complete objectivity, he has made real contributions to the development of the historiography of the national Roumanian problem.
