The Cooperative, an Intangible Cultural Heritage: the Basque Model of Mondragón Corporación Cooperativa

Summary/Abstract: The cooperative movement is recognised for its major contribution to our current societies through universal values, local identity roots and an approach combining tradition and modernity. These characteristics, which seem antagonistic on the face of it, make the cooperative movement extremely interesting to study. This author intends to analyse a paradigmatic cooperative scheme based on local roots while adopting the global perspective of the Mondragón cooperative experience. More precisely, the aim is to analyse the identity foundations of this experience and how they link up to this cooperative group.
