Summary/Abstract: The first library in Gradačac was built 1839 and it was situated in the yard of the largest mosque the Husejnija. The National Library of B&H was founded in 1946 public library which was 1975 adopted and improved the book collection, the library staff and the building facilities. After the war 1995 was founded the Public Library in Gradačac with 35.000 books which was separated from the Centre for Information and Culture. The newly founded Library was opened 1997 and today it has three departments, local collections with 348 rare editions and reader's club. Since 1998 Library has published the magazine Diwan, and until 2002 it has 5 volumes and 8 issues. In 1999 the Library adopted the name Alija Iskaović, one of the most famous Bosniak writer.
