Summary/Abstract: Thanks to the studies carried out during the last forty years, which have contributed significantly to the elimination of certain inveterate historiographical prejudices, it is now possible to state with complete confidence that Boethius is one of the greatest philosophers of the entire Occidental tradition. Born at a turning point in the cultural and political history of the West, he is not only the well‑known author of the Consolatio philosophiae, but also a leading expert on the quadrivium and, in particular, the trivium.
