Summary/Abstract: Meister Eckhart’s universe involves an organic imagism, in which the intellectual soul is seen as eye or hand. In opposition to the external eye, symbol of sensuous cognition (which acts by converting sensations into phantasms /conversio ad phantasmata), the internal eye (the intellect, imago dei) works in the privileged place of the encounter with the divine Eye, the deity itself (gotheit).
