Summary/Abstract: This article deals fi rst with an introduction to the theme of justifi cation by referring to the famous Martin Luther`s 95 thesis and to Jaroslav Pelikan`s understanding of it. Then there are special reference to Father Stăniloae`s view on the Lutheran doctrine of justifi cation. Father Stăniloae makes direct reference to Luther`s work and to some Protestant theologians, showing a clear openness to dialogue, refusing aprioric judgments, and willing to value the tendencies to come closer to the authentic teachings of the Church, from the part of other Christians. The second part is dealing with the theme of justifi cation and good works in the documents: “The Church of Jesus Christ. The contribution of the Reformation towards ecumenical dialogue on Church unity” and in the “Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justifi cation by the Lutheran World Federation and the Catholic Church”, which are major contributions to the the dialog and the mutual understanding and respect between Christians.
