Summary/Abstract: One of Enescu’s maturity compositions, Childhood Impressions (1940) is a representative work in the landscape of violin-piano duo repertoire that still arouses the interest of performers since it did not benefit from a very rapid spread during its era, given the historical context. This research proposes classifying this programmatic piece within the theme of the artwork in correlation with the idea of travel. This approach is reflected in four axes imagined as itineraries. The first axis proposes a journey in a well-delimited space, in the countryside of rural Moldova; the second stage follows the journey in time, respectively the arch of the temporal route is restored from the moment of its composition until the childhood years (a distance of about 50 years). The third axis aims to reveal the psychological universe of the composer, with emphasis on the cognitive side and affectivity and the last itinerary is represented by the journey of the contemporary interpreter in the universe of the work, with references to all the pre-routes observed here. The methodology is based on the definition of key terms, such as memory, impression, perception, from a psychological point of view, but also semantically or philosophically, and on the analysis if the musical elements that can prove the investigated principles. The importance of this study is validated in the work of the performer, who, accessing this vision, can develop and refine his own interpretive strategy.
