Summary/Abstract: Whilst a most significant part of Croatia was involved in the Homeland War of the summer months of 1991 in the Senj area a great tension was felt, as well as the decisiveness to defend the homeland. Senj and the Senj Podgorje area found themselves during the Homeland War on one periphery of the immediate war operation, however, despite this, their contribution to this battle was great. Senj’s Podgorje people participated as volunteers in all the battlefields throughout Croatia and with pride defended their country from the aggression of the JNA (The Yugoslav National Army) and Serbian paramilitary units. They notably distinguished themselves in battles in Lika, as well as the territory of Senj and Velebit Podgorje, to which this exclusive saying refers. In this Homeland War they always showed themselves to be ready to sacrifice their lives for the defence of their homeland of Croatia.
