Summary/Abstract: The study follows the reflection of plague epidemics in Czech narrative sources of urbanprovenance from the early modern period. It is based on chroniclers’ reports, in which itis possible to discover the views of contemporary inhabitants of the cities on the tensemoments in their lives represented by plague epidemics. It deals mainly with the questionof how the plague was perceived in urban society and the degree of detail with which theatmosphere of the period is captured in the sources. Attention is also devoted to mentionsof measures against the spread of the disease, care for the infected, the ways by which theplague was introduced into the city, data on the number of victims (which were mostlyexaggerated by chroniclers), and the authors’ approach to tragic events in the family.
