Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on general knowledge in conference interpreting training. It provides an annotated literature review of the topic as well as a personal account of a former conference interpreting trainee who developed a general knowledge enhancement plan during the MA programme. The first part of the paper presents general knowledge for the “ideal” professional conference interpreter: topics that professionals should become familiar with in their daily work. The second part tackles general knowledge for training purposes, from aptitude tests to final exams. The third part is a narrative account of a general knowledge enhancement plan implemented during one academic year, with examples of useful resources for law, economics, geography, science etc. The concluding remarks are summarized in a Decalogue for trainees who wish to improve their general knowledge.
