Summary/Abstract: Migration has always been a topical issue for researchers as it started from Ancient times and goes on even today. This movement opened the way for cultural transfers and new working relations between different countries and their inhabitants. The aim of this paper is to present the relationship between Romania and Italy that started from the migration in the past and continued by the free movement of citizens inside the European Union in recent years. Our approach will highlight the common historical moments of these two Latin countries, starting from the Union of the Greek-Catholic Church with the Church of Rome in 1698 and ending with some comparative aspects of the historical evolution of two particular regions in these countries: Transylvania and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. We will then further debate on the idea of regions and regionalism as common values of the European Union as it is well known that enhanced regional cooperation will lead to the economic, social, and cultural development of both Member States and candidate countries. The last part of our article will tackle the commercial links between Romania and Italy, with emphasis put on the Italian companies that delocalized in Transylvania in the 1990s. A privileged place is granted in this part to the history of the Italian-Romanian economic relations initiated immediately after the Romanian Revolution of 1989.
