Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we aim to analyze the discursive marks of humor of two categories of narrative characters, known for their tremendous seriousness concerning their way of life: the spiritual fathers and the fool-for-Christ saints. Our corpus will consist of French language versions of the book devoted to the life and advice of Father Cleopas and the lives of the saints we find in the Synaxarion used for the liturgy at the Saint-Antoine-Le-Grand monastery in France. We will approach the textual factors that trigger the humor of these characters: the situations, the interlocutors and their particular personality type, as well as the effects aimed at by its discursive expression, generally of an educational nature, of encouragement of the interlocutors with regard to the spiritual life.
