Summary/Abstract: Textbooks on research methods are an important part of the socialization of novice social researchers. For them, they are one of the basic sources indicating the importance of ethical issues in conducting research and the principles that apply to researchers (also from the perspective of institutional control). The paper is intended to analyse how ethical issues are presented in eight handbooks from the “Niezbędnik badacza” series published by Wydawnictwo Naukowe PWN. As a result of a qualitative content analysis, I have reconstructed the main themes of the authors’ ethical reflection. They are focused on the procedural requirements regarding ethics and the main ethical rules applicable for qualitative research (informed consent, confidentiality), with little discussion of more nuanced ethical issues and contemporary challenges that the researchers need to face.
