Summary/Abstract: For the communication between doctor and patient to be effective, it is necessary that the prescription be readable and understandable to the person to whom it is addressed. This article examines the readability and monosemia of prescriptions issued by physicians. Based on a socio-linguistic survey carried out in nine Cameroonian hospitals, we will show that the prescriptions written by doctors are illegible and incomprehensible. To overcome the risks associated with their misinterpretation, it is desirable to computerize the medical record and revisit the way these prescriptions are written.
