Summary/Abstract: Starting from a critical examination of the translation competence in the multilingual context of Senegal, the main objective of this study is to propose a number of appropriate guidelines for the design of translator training curricula. These general orientations revolve around a progressive and selective inclusion of national languages in the teaching systems of foreign languages and translation. Our theoretical framework comes in line with the approach by the PACTE Group (2008) to the notion of translation competence. We intend to show how the specificity of the linguistic landscape may require the introduction of unusual teachings in the curricula.
