Summary/Abstract: The article discusses selected legislative initiatives regarding the political transformation in local government units in Poland. The author demonstrates to what extent political changes regarding the self-government system were motivated by the reduction of public authorities’ operating costs. The analysis carried out in the article proves that the issue of public expenditure has been repeatedly treated by the legislator, without due diligence, and even instrumentally, in order to achieve current political goals.
