Summary/Abstract: The article presents the analysis of the material obtained by Petrozavodsk State University expedition in 2017 at the ancient site known as Svyatilishche (“a sacred place”). The problem of correlation between the White Sea petroglyphs and nearby sites is examined in the context of their dating and functioning. Researchers follow different approaches to dating the White Sea petroglyphs with the use of materials from the nearby sites. So, it is also necessary to define more precisely the range of heights above sea level for different types of ceramics found at the sites of the Vyg River lower reaches, close to the petroglyphs. A more detailed study of the area settlement in the Neolithic and the Eneolithic, including both the bank line and the islands on the river, is also needed. The conducted research showed that a group of ancient relics including the Besovy Sledki petroglyphs (the northern group), nearby sites and artifacts found in the Vyg riverbed, represent an assemblage of partly interrelated and probably chronologically close or even contemporaneous objects.
