Summary/Abstract: The proposed text is part of a larger study of the actor‘s art and of the 20th century basic acting systems of Gordon Craig, Konstantin Stanislavski, Vsevolod Meyerhold, Michael Chekhov, Bertolt Brecht, Jerzy Grotowski, Peter Brook and others. The main accent is put on the transition from the text to the actor’s image. It is often considered that the actor‘s work consists in present-ing the author‘s text “mostly credible”. The actor‘s task, however, is far from demonstrating the dramatic text or script. In any case, s/he is more than “empty vessel waiting to be filled with the illocutionary wine of the playwright” (Keir Elam). The presentation focuses on different models of actor-role relationship in the image-building process, based on concrete examples of European and Bulgarian theatrical practices of actor‘s work on the role.
