Summary/Abstract: The Noh Theatre repertoire consists mostly of plays written before 1600. In 2009, this repertoire was enriched by the play The Circle of Water by Akihiro Yamamoto. The present text follows the evolution of Yamamoto’s creative idea of the play – from its conception to the actual performances. Other matters are also discussed, such as: the messages that Yamamoto has wished to get across; the ways in which Japanese and foreign audiences have been attracted to the performances. The text would be of interest to the Bulgarian cultural community as the play was presented in our country in 2011 and in 2012, therefore, the text also analyses the reception of the play in Bulgaria. Various materials have been explored in the text, such as: archives; correspondence with performers; publi-cations. The text is based on the historical, theoretical, analytical, comparative and other methods of research.
