Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the behavioural dimension of migrant transnationalism by constructing an index of migrant “home orientation”. The data used to this end concern the sending of remittances, communication with home and the expression of an intention to return to one’s country. The index varies significantly, depending on status characteristics and migration experience of immigrants. At least one component of transnationalism, the sending of remittances, appears to be an arrival wave effect rather than an immigration duration effect. The research hypotheses are also tested by comparing the various categories of immigrants in Spain (those from Romania, other European countries, Latin America and Africa).
