Summary/Abstract: The article presents the figure of Andre Norton – an American librarian, writer and promoter of science fiction and fantasy, particularly among the younger readers. The article discusses her biography, her creative work as well as her work as a librarian. To that end, the author analyzes her works of fiction, in particular her Witch World series, attempting to explain their popularity and Norton’s role in creating positive attitudes and values among her readers. Moreover, the article discusses also High Hallack, a specialized library created by Norton for the writers and readers of science fiction and fantasy.
