Summary/Abstract: The article presents the reading culture of a twelve-year-old boy born with Down’s Syndrom, a fourth grade student at a special needs school. The article studies the reading culture through delineating motivational and instrumental dispositions and description of the child’s reading habits. Moreover, the article utilizes John Guthrie and Allan Wigfield’s model of studying reading motivation in the psychological and pedagogic perspective, adapted into the Polish reality by Zofia Zasacka. The article also presents the child’s reading interests and choices. The research material was obtained through discussing the ways of spending free time with the child in question, followed by an interview with the mother and an attempt to define the reading motivations of the child through the use of a questionnaire. The analysis was conducted during the first quarter of 2018.
