What do the students at the Institute of Library and Information Science want? Discussing the project and the survey

Summary/Abstract: Having witnessed the gradual changes in the perception of the mission of the university and the turn towards improving the curriculum, the primary aim of this study has been to look at this issue from the perspective of the students at the University of Silesia in Katowice, in particular at the Institute of Library and Information Science. The study has been based on a survey in which there were 86 participants. The participants pointed to particular spheres of activity which have been then divided into four areas of interest. On the basis of the collected data as well as the conclusions drawn from the survey, the study has proposed and contributed to the implementation of several practical solutions aimed at improving the academia. Familiarity with the expectations voiced by the students at the Institute of Library and Information Science can be helpful in constructing further development initiatives within the Institute as well as the Faculty and the associated Information Science Student Research Circle.
