Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the early years of Al. Fol, specifically to the social and individual processes that led to the creation of a critical distance between him and different types of authorities. His attitude towards the dominant Marxist ideology during his student years is considered when the contradictory messages coming to from his parents played a decisive role. His relationship with leading professors at the SofiaUniversity, to whom he offers both commitment and criticism, has been studied, as well as his links to Western historiographers, whose scholarly means he implements while maintaining a critique on their academic theories.
