Summary/Abstract: Martin Heidegger understands the essence of technics as something nontechnical, as a mode of truth revealing, to which we should evolve a free relationship. The essence of technology is in the nature of art in the case of traditional technics, yet in the case of modern technics it becomes something else, its exploitation and transformation into a reserve of raw materials that stands in wait of command. The danger that modern technics poses is essential to human freedom. Contemporary philosophy of technology tries to analyze the objects of technology to see how have they affected our environment and our way of seeing the world. Don Ihde analyses imagistic technologies as a form of embodiment, almost like an extension of our own bodies, and as expanders of our knowledge; the concept is called technoscience. Andrew Feenberg put forward a social and critical theory of technology, analyzing the power structures that manifest themselves in different technologies. He looks at technocratic power relations, and democratic communication, favoring the latter, which can be applied even in a virtual environment. Modern philosophy of technology construes a positive and constructive meaning of technology.
