Lost Country

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the phenomenon of the gradual modification and the slow decay of the typical Slovak mountain country. It emerges from the personal experiences of the author – an active tourist, it maps geographical specifics and looks for the ‟cultural” traces of the natural interconnection of human activities with natural surroundings in the past and nowadays. The article venerates the work of our ancestors, the simple and hard way of life, laborious provision of daily livelihood. It admires fragile and evanescent fragments of esthetic and visual beauty of the just waning world, of the lost country that is vanishing.
