Summary/Abstract: The goal of the study is to highlight useless bureaucratical practices, consuming time and resources, that negatively affect the quality of teaching and classroom practices in the Romanian secondary education system. The study uses qualitative research methods, especially the in-depth interview and the gateway approach described by C. L. Mears (2009). The study highlights the main symptoms of the bureaucratical malady by describing the authentic but demoralizing experiences of the members of the educational community affected by the syndrom of bureaucracy. The effect of the bureaucratical practices on the professional and personal experience of the teacher is profound an affects the classroom teaching. For improving the quality of the educational activities in Romanian primary and secondary education, policies that adress the nocive structural aspects of bureaucracy are required.
