Summary/Abstract: This article is a short analysis of Valeriu Anania’s literary work, especially his poetry. In a commentary on Valeriu Anania’s work, one cannot ignore the author’s biography, respectively the fact that the writer Valeriu Anania is one and the same person with Metropolitan Bartolomeu. It is not a question here of two disjointed destinies, but of two complementary spiritual itineraries, which correspond to a double vocation: one – creative, in an aesthetic horizon, and another – monastic. The two vocations crystallized in an ambivalence, not without internal tensions, in most literary writings, but also separately, in theological writings. But the theologian never overwhelms the writer. However, at least at the level of the lyric, the monastic vocation and, respectively, the theological formation are legitimizing, the poet’s way of relating to the tradition, both to the Orthodox and to the cultural tradition in general. The poet Valeriu Anania grows and is moulded in the horizon of this paradigm.
