Summary/Abstract: German Studies as an academic field today, in terms of profile, content and methods, are different from how the discipline was designed and established in the modelgiving 19th century. It has undergone a history full of changes, and is facing major challenges positioning of German Studies and their manifestations. Thus, it raises some questions concerning the current principles in terms of terminology, conceptualization, positioning and prospects of German Studies (in their various forms) and discusses these issues in their multilingual and multicultural European framework of reference. Against this background, elements of the outline and the performance of specially Eastern-Central European German Studies are elaborated upon.
