Summary/Abstract: Complex historical periods, among which was undoubtedly the time of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, made the inhabitants of the Czech Lands face a crucial question: How to cope with the current situation? Should one stick to moral values, or rather seek a way to survive? And while that was a dilemma for “ordinary” people, intellectuals were affected twice as greatly. They realised that their actions could be seen by others as exemplary. It is apparent therefore that in this respect, university educated historians were an especially exposed group.
