Summary/Abstract: Longevity is a success. Cognitive decline appears in the context of ageing. Physiological cognitive decline must be differentiated from pathological degradation which leads to disease, the final form being dementia. The current pharmaceutical therapeutic possibilities for neurocognitive disorders are limited; succeeding only in slowing down the evolution of the disease and in lessening some behavioural disorders, yet in more than 10 years there has been no improvement in the field. Other methods, using communication means, such as physical exercise, therapy through dancing, music and painting seem to be more efficient at certain levels. We can say that communication is a key element in the diagnosis and current treatment of neurocognitive disorders, offering new perspectives for the future.
