Summary/Abstract: Sending an SMS cannot be done in more than 160 words. We have to use our inventiveness in order to send a message as concise as possible, but also meaningful. The subject of the article is represented by a comparison between the use of SMS language in Italian, English, and French. By comparing different types of strategies used in languages, we are able to approach English and French which tend to use a phonetic way, while Italian relies on the ending of words (a fact that reveals itself as being morphology) allowing the reader to fill in the gap. We will also draw a parallel between the methods that can be used in morphology and Semitic and isolating languages. Finally, our wish is to show that the difficulty of « deciphering » a text, as well as understanding a text, is due to “opaque” words (the body of consonants and the logos) that are not in the orthographical vocabulary of the reader ; they are not recognized by a non – connoisseur.
