Summary/Abstract: This study deals with Eduard Petrů´s concept of interpretation and his approach tointerpretation. The study explains the basic theoretical and methodological basis of hisscientific works. The core of Petrů´s concept of interpretation is the theory of interpretivespace, interpretive fields and the interpretive center. According to Petrů, the basickey to the interpretation of the text is its poetics. The pivotal elements of his methodof interpretation are contextualization, comparison, structural and functional analysis,and genre studies. Petrů is convinced that the aim of literary research is to obtain anadequate interpretation of the studied text. His concept of interpretation is text-centeredand empirical: the interpretation is based on critical and rigorous analysis of the textmaterial.
