BETWEEN THE HISTORICAL FACT AND PROSAIC ARTEFACT: DETAIL IN THE MEDIEVAL MANUSCRIPT MATERIAL FROM THE ARCHIVES IN SOUTH SLAVIC COASTAL CITIES

Summary/Abstract: The detail in this paper is taken as a particular which, unlike the trifle, have the ability to replace whole. In a broader sense, the detail is also understandable as a miniature in text. Details of the special nature, function, and meaning are present in the late medieval manuscript material from the archives in the South Slavic coastal cities. Some of them are keys to determining historical facts.With the help of the individual details from the manuscripts shows that prince Vratko is the father of the princess Milica, it shows that Katarina Jelena Hrvatinić stayed in Budva in 1398, it shows that Dragana, the daughter of Prince Lazar is not married to the Bulgarian tzar Shishman... Dubrovnik archive witnesses that the fact that prince Vratko’s girdle, which was pledged to Marin Bunić, was not returned is more important than the girdle.As the fact that the Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanić wrote one letter to Dubrovnik from the Spuž, in Zeta is more important than the content of that letter. Thanks to the details, the contract of the duke Sandalj Kosača and baness Anka, signed in Novi, looks like something that came from the novel. Details like this are anticipated in the literary works from the newer times (novels of Milan Šufflay, Goran Petrović, Teodora Tara).
