Summary/Abstract: V. Sorokin’s novelet Den’ oprichnika describes or mentions numerous characters disguising actual Russian political or cultural figures, including those of modern literature. The writer juggles their real names at various language levels. The paper looks into the devices used for the phonetic modifications of anthroponyms and identifies the real contemporary figures behind the literary allusions.
