Summary/Abstract: One of the particularities of the Sixth Ecumenical Synod was that Makarius ofAntiocheia, the main representative of Monothelitism and Monoenergitism, waspresent. The Fathers of the Synod entered into a direct juxtaposition with him, andinspected by collation the authenticity of the patristic “uses”, which each side hadinvoked to reinforce its arguments. There seem to appear seven “uses” of JohnChrysostom. In order of appearance in the Acts of the Synod, the second and fourth ofthe “uses” are identical, whereas the seventh is not authentic. The fi rst is a commenton Matth. 26:39, while the second had been derived from the Εἰς τὸ παρελθέτω τὸποτήριον ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ speech with justifi ed observations on specifi c falsifi cations of thisSpeech that had been exercised by the Monothelites. The third “use” was taken fromΠρὸς τοὺς ἀπολειφθέντας τῆς συνάξεως, the fi fth from Εἰς Ματθαῖον ΠΓ´ and the sixthfrom Εἰς Ἰωάννην ΞΖ´. From the above extracts we conclude that Chrysostom exceedsthe schema Logos – Man and its juxtaposition with that of Logos – fl esh, because ofhis mainly soteriological – guiding intentions in his dogmatic reports.
