Summary/Abstract: The feature of the relationship between Germany and China are strong dynamics and large scope. Its impact on the transformations of the global order is huge and increasing. The balance of economic power between them has been changing dramatically, reversing in some regards their positions. The changes turn out more considerable in case of taking into account results of qualitative analysis of both economies. The distinct attribute of Germany’s approach to China is conspicuous tension between interests and values, embedded usually in traditionally meant world-order mindset. Nevertheless, with only few and transient exceptions, each chief of federal government has contributed suffi ciently strong support for ultimately assuring symbiotic cooperation with China while adjusting to the expectations of more and more assertive China. New developments in the world economy and politics, in particular in relations between the United States and China as well as wide-ranging consequences of the pandemia, have brought about some attempts of new policies of the EU and Germany as well as new – probably stronger – determinants and constraints.
