Summary/Abstract: Facing contemporary global challenges and the ecological crisis, traditional knowledge production is insufficient. Over the past few decades, new models of knowledge production have emerged, such as post-academic science, post-normal science, Mode 2, triple, quadruple, and quintuple helix. Each subsequent model is more complex. The trend has a great impact on academic life and scientific research. This article aims to explore the changes in knowledge production and its selected consequences for the scientific research such as the steering of research priorities, commercialization of research, managing research, social credibility of research, transdisciplinarity, and doing research in teams, research networks, and the growing importance of applied and mixed-method research.
