Summary/Abstract: The development of material culture is often linked and shaped by other factors such as the creation of national identity, the tastes and fashions that are related to certain eras, and most importantly: the level of technological development and the resources that are available to a certain community. The material culture of the Gagauzians from Budjak didn’t enjoy plenty of attention from scholars, most scholarly works being more focused on aspects that are related to linguistic or ethnopolitical issues. Gagauzian groups came to Budjak region in the early 19th century, some left Dobrudja in search of a better life, some came from the central regions of present-day Bulgaria. The current paper aims at analyzing aspects that are linked to the peculiarities of vernacular homes, textiles, and traditional clothing. The development of both architecture, decorative textiles, and clothing is strongly intertwined with the development of craftsmanship in the region, to the spread of styles and techniques across ethnic boundaries.
