Summary/Abstract: In Nedjeljko Fabrio’s essay, the subject takes part in the historical process involving both the expression and its reference. His essay writing contains the logic that questions the truth of rhetorical composition and system, even the historical knowledge that makes generations repeat the already seen and experienced. At the same time, it should be understood as the collage making and editing of raw historical documents: newspaper articles, letters and records. In those, the intervention of the essay writer is reduced to short and occasional sequences of connecting numerous outside elements with the given topic which moves from music towards literature, from the ecstasy of words and the records of tones. This mutation of the relationship between historiography and essay writing no doubt opens up another possibility when it comes to writing essays: writing against oblivion or against the programmed oblivion.
