The Synonyms of the Adjective {odpowiedzialny}. An Attempt to Verify Dictionary Propositions

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present paper is the attempt to verify synonymous sequences of the adjective {odpowiedzialny} (responsible) provided by dictionaries of synonyms and dictionaries of Polish. Logical operations (conjunction, disjunction, implication) carried out on pairs created from the adjective {odpowiedzialny} and other words described as its synonyms along with the analysis of reciprocal convertibility of words from these pairs lead to the conclusion that the adjective {odpowiedzialny} has a very specialised meaning which hardly ever enters into synonymous relationships. The exception is the relationship with the adjective winny which can substitute for the adjective {odpowiedzialny} when describing causality of negative events. The other adjectives analysed in the article seem to be only thematically close to the adjective {odpowiedzialny}.
