Summary/Abstract: The article deals with lexical (semantic) loan words originating in German and excerpted from the 16th century Dictionary of Polish and aims to classify those to particular thematic areas. The Germanisms in question are limited only to those words which were new and were acquired into Polish in the 16th century. The study covers 194 words which in most cases had quite low frequency of occurrence in texts. Up to 40% of the loan words are those connected with commerce, craft and construction, which reflects the nature of Polish-German contacts in the period.
