Summary/Abstract: This paper considers the competitiveness of the use of adjective and adverb as a complement to the verb izgledati; the aim is to research what is the difference between construction izgledati+adj. and izgledati+adv. The research is corpus based. The basic corpus consists of examples with the verb izgledati and its complement (adj. or adv.); control corpus contains cases with the verb zvučati and its complement (adj. or adv.). The theoretical framework is based on the postulates of cognitive linguistics (domain theory of E. Sweetser (Sweetser 1990)).
