Summary/Abstract: This study systematizes the basic particularities of the EU criminal law regulation of the counteraction to the illicit drug trafficking. These particularities are connected with: а/ the objective of approximating the national measures on the grounds of minimum standards regarding the constituent elements in corpora delicti which delineate drug trafficking, as well as the punishment of the latter; b/ clarification of the terms ‘drugs’ and ‘precursors’; c/ outlining the main features of the scope of acts that should be treated as illicit drug trafficking; d/ the policy of sanctions in the field of illicit drug trafficking. At the same time, it is pointed out that, for the sake of clarification of certain terms, the EU regulation makes a renvoi to the provisions of the international criminal law. In this way, those standards which are regulated therein turn into standards of the EU criminal law as well, and acquire new legal effect as regards the Member States. The final conclusion is that it is necessary for the EU criminal law regime of counteraction to the illicit drug trafficking to be considerably improved. Currently, this regime is parcelled out and contains a number of ambiguities. Of course, this should not be regarded as a justification for those Member States which have still to fulfil some of the standards of that regime.
