Summary/Abstract: Communication is different in the two activities, for the translator being only represented by documents, e-mails, faxes, etc, or just by phone, in order to give directions , information regarding the documents to be translated, while for the interpreter , it is an immediate communication, a direct one, verbal, para-verbal, non – verbal, a direct contact, namely the liaison interpreting. Comparing the translator, the interpreter must be able to translate immediately and without any previous preparation any type of discourse or conversation. A translator works on the written language, while the mission of the interpreter is to translate the spoken language In reality and in practice, translation and interpretation are very different activities because the exigencies and their finality are not the same. There is a clear difference between the job of a translator and the one of the interpreter. The translator, comparing to the interpreter, translates in written language, and not orally , as the interpreter does. For centuries transition and interpretation play a central role in the development of European cultures and represents the environment where it takes place a fascinating dialogue between the different languages and cultures, thus a communication process.
