Summary/Abstract: Many cities and states have made recent decisions prohibiting the use of natural gas to heat new buildings in the near future. They also exclude any possibility of using other fossil fuels. By 2050, all buildings, new and existing, will have to use exclusively energy from renewable sources. In this paper I review the alternatives to natural gas for heating buildings and offer possible solutions. Practical action is currently limited to a few actors, but the number is growing every day, with the end of achieving a primary goal from the Paris Accords, ensuring that global medium air temperatures grow far less than 2°C, compared to the second half of the 19th century (the pre-industrial period).
