Summary/Abstract: This article seeks to understand where the Schmemann-Kavanagh-Fagerberg school wants to place liturgical theology in the academic curriculum. Toward that end, Fagerberg identifies five mental shifts he underwent in defining liturgy. They concerned tradition, ritual, asceticism, theologia, and leitourgia. Each shift “thickens” the understanding we have of liturgy, leading to the definition that “Liturgy is the Trinity’s perichoresis kenotically extended to invite our synergistic ascent into deification.
