Critical Study on the Life and Activity of Saint John of Damascus

Summary/Abstract: Although there is little information about the life and activity of Saint John of Damascus, the following study relies on known historical documents and studies related to this subject in order to highlight some of the aspects of his existence: date and place of birth, family, education, his ordination to the Priesthood, his activity as defender of the holy icons, as well as several aspects related to his death and burial. Nevertheless, describing a clear path of Saint John’s life is a difficult endeavour and therefore, the result is rather a sketched shape witch, in its turn, is occasionally blurred by legends.
